London Local: Mandy-Lee Myerson

With a passion for South African art and the desire to promote it, the busy art consultant is perfectly placed to make the most of London’s frenetic energy

Living in cosmopolitan London has given me exposure to the best art in the world and access to art-related activities on a very different scale to what one is exposed to in SA.  

What infuriates me about London is its frenetic energy. It may have something to do with being such a transient city. I find that this makes people appear to be less accessible.

My work day is varied. We are a two-person team with a support team. We put together approximately three exhibitions a year at galleries around London. Our primary focus has remained with South African contemporary art .Our time is divided between visiting clients, developing private and corporate collections, creating proposals, projects and sourcing work.

I relax by socialising with friends or eating a wonderful meal at home with my husband. Yoga, walking and meditating are my ways of relaxing.

I love my job, because I am passionate about art and the rich talent we have in SA. Tapping into and gaining appreciation for a work often requires going into a different space. I get great fulfilment from working closely with artists while offering clients insights into this other world.

My work /life balance is challenging now that I am a mom, but something that I value greatly and work at.

I miss South Africa’s outdoor lifestyle and my family and friends but have the best of both worlds being able to travel back to SA fairly regularly.

So life is short, make the most of it!
